If your interests lie in portrait photography, then you probably already know that there are a few skills that you should have in order to get beautiful portraits. Most especially if you want to make a career out of it. Portrait photography is not at all hard as long as you develop your technical know how and social skills that is important in this field of photography. Want to land those portrait studio jobs that you want? Then here are just a few tips to help you get closer to your dream.

1. Study composition
Though portrait studio jobs don’t seem to be dealing with composition very often, this is still an important factor in being able to take great pictures of your subject. Make your picture simple and direct to the point, eliminating any elements in the picture that may cause diverting attention away from your subject. Only choose a background that is going to be flattering to your subject. The use of props is not recommended but if you have to, don’t allow it to dominate the picture entirely.

2. Keep constant interaction going between you and your subject,
Sometimes, you may find yourself too concentrated on how to compose the perfect portrait photo that it’s easy to forget that you still need to interact with your subject. Try not to spend too much time behind the camera and instead establish eye contact with your subject every once in awhile. This will make your subject more at ease over time and you will be able to capture the real essence of that person into the pictures that you’re taking. It’s a crucial skill to have since most portrait studio jobs often require their photographers to have good rapport with anyone and everyone.

3. Make your subjects comfortable
Probably the most important skill that you need to develop on if you want to get those portrait studio jobs that you want. Usually the most beautiful portrait shots are the candid ones where the true emotions of the subject are the most evident. And the only way you will be able to see those candid moments is by making your subject very comfortable around you. Strike up a conversation with your subject throughout the shoot so that you get to see a range of emotions that your subject is capable of. This way, if ever you will be using the same model again, you already know how you will be able to get the emotions that you want to evoke and show in the photos.

4. Offer advice
Lastly, be prepared to offer advice. You need to be able to direct your subjects to adjust their angles or tilt their heads so that you can get their best sides on the picture. There are many photographers working portrait studio jobs who do not bother to give their subjects advice on how to pose, which is why many people end up with portrait photos that don’t do them any justice. Don’t be afraid to Tell your subject how you want them to sit or stand, or which angle to turn fin order for you to get the best photos you can possibly take of them
